Carrie McKenzie

Carrie McKenzie is a professional artist based in Halifax. After qualifying at the University of Huddersfield and working as a Lecturer and Senior Manager for 25 years, she left further education to pursue her love of the arts.  She has since trained with a number of national and internationally acclaimed artists, who have influenced the development of her own distinctive style.

Her artwork hovers between abstraction and figuration and she continues to explore expressionistic loose styles, to bring out the colour and light of her subjects.  Describing herself as a colourist painter, she paints in all mediums, but prefers the purity and translucence of watercolour, finding that no other medium can match its freshness and sheer radiance.

She was recently shortlisted for the Ken Bromley 2013 Cover, and her African Giant painting was voted by the public as ‘Best in Show’ at the Piece Hall 2013 exhibition.  Carrie exhibits and sells her work at a range of venues across Calderdale and a showcase of her work can also be viewed on her website at: www.carriemckenzie.co.uk.
