A local newspaper journalist in the North East, Derbyshire and Huddersfield for 40 years, I always had a keen interest in art, but little time to pursue it. Since retiring, however, I’ve explored both painting and drawing, attending courses at The Artworks. Unexpectedly, during Lockdown I found myself commissioned to produce a number of pet portraits. As an animal lover (married to a vet) I greatly enjoyed the challenge.
I also love painting the stunning scenery of my adopted county. Watercolour and pastel are my favourite media but when working on commissions I also use charcoal, chalk and pencils.
I have a particular fondness for Oriental art and the works of the Italian Renaissance, the latter of which I studied with the Open University.
