The workshop of the Halifax Art Society on the 29th March was led by member Philip Hickin. He had made a variety of geometric shapes for members to draw and paint. You could hear a pin drop while we were concentrating on the shapes and their shadows.
Last Friday Mark Burgum demonstrated to the Halifax Art Society how to create a misty effect using graphite with a cloth, before drawing trees with a soft pencil.
After the coffee break we tried out what we had learned earlier. In the end we used a rubber to do ‘negative drawing ‘ for highlights on the snow or the top of walls.
On the 5th April Julia Ogden will lead a workshop ‘Seascape in Acrylics’ and attendees should bring a canvas/board and paints.
Today our members were treated to a demonstration by Charles Kelly, on wildlife in watercolour.
Finding an abandoned wren’s nest in Lynda Thomas’ allotment shed gave us the inspiration for last Friday’s workshop. Lynne Hickin and Lynda showed examples of traditional paintings and more contemporary images. With spring in the air we worked enthusiastically and tried different media.
On the 22nd March Mark Burgum will lead a workshop ”Drawing Trees’.
Last Friday our costume model, Julie, was in flapper mode and helped to make it a memorable session. Many members came to All Saints Parish Hall in Godfrey Road, Skircoat Green at 10:30 to create a portrait in any medium.
On the 8th March, Charles Kelly will give a demonstration ‘Birds in Watercolour’, wet in wet.
