Last Friday’s challenge for the Halifax Art Society was ‘ A portrait in a hat’. We all wore a hat and did quick sketches of each other, causing a lot of laughter. Nobody was offended, and some truly amazing pictures emerged.

The Friday meeting of the Halifax Art Society on the 23rd June was a follow up of the previous week, when we had Matthew Evans to demonstrate ‘Florals in Pastel’. The members soon became focused on putting into practice what Matthew had taught them. Their choices were very varied and the outcome was excellent: Flowers in landscapes, a single specimen, bouquets and many other forms involving flowers. It was a very enjoyable morning.

On the 9th June we had a most enjoyable morning at Halifax Art Society, when our member Anne Gaahjuan brought along unusual items to paint a still life in any chosen medium. We were so focused on the task in hand that you could have heard a pin drop.

The Halifax Art Society had a very good response to their workshop on painting on silk, which was led by one of our members, Denis Kilbey. He had organised everything, including materials and instructions. Under his guidance some lovely work was produced and a noticeable hush as we were absorbed by the gentle flow of the paint. Our change of venue in January has resulted in a rejuvenation of the meetings and we hope the group will continue to flourish.
