Flowers in practice

The Friday meeting of the Halifax Art Society on the 23rd June was a follow up of the previous week, when we had Matthew Evans to demonstrate ‘Florals in Pastel’. The members soon became focused on putting into practice what Matthew had taught them. Their choices were very varied and the outcome was excellent: Flowers in landscapes, a single specimen, bouquets and many other forms involving flowers. It was a very enjoyable morning.

Floral painting demonstration

Matthew Evans June 2017The demonstrator for the Halifax Art Society’s meeting last Friday was Matthew Evans.

Matthew is well known to the members who admire his work and his ability to pass on his knowledge and skills in a very entertaining way. Matthew chose to paint flowers in landscapes, using pastels as his medium. Tips on materials and where to get the best values came in abundance.
His first painting was of rhododendrons in a local park followed by a painting of bluebells at Shibden Hall.
Our next demonstration will be on the 7th July, when David Newbould will demonstrate ‘Landscape Painting in Mixed Media’.

Painting on silk

image4

The Halifax Art Society had a very good response to their workshop on painting on silk, which was led by one of our members, Denis Kilbey. He had organised everything, including materials and instructions. Under his guidance some lovely work was produced and a noticeable hush as we were absorbed by the gentle flow of the paint. Our change of venue in January has resulted in a rejuvenation of the meetings and we hope the group will continue to flourish.
