In an interesting session led by Art Society member Hilarie Stelfox, we had a go at doing different kinds of Japanese painting – landscapes, flowers, animals, and beautiful ladies. This was something new for most of our members, and we had a very good time learning new techniques.

Member’s choice
Last week, quite a few members of the Halifax Art Society came together although the announced demonstration couldn’t take place. Artists don’t run out of ideas easily as the pictures show.

Winter watercolours
Last Friday the Halifax Art Society came together to work in watercolour under the guidance of our member Carrie on the theme ‘Winter’. We were sitting well apart or even with a mask, if members felt safer that way. It is amazing to see the different ideas and wonderful pieces of art emerging in such a short time.
Seed heads
We had a very enjoyable workshop on Friday, 26th November, painting and drawing some lovely seed heads – teasels, honesty, cones and others. Some people used watercolour, some used acrylic inks, and some did detailed botanical studies in pen and ink or in soft pencil – a beautiful selection.
Catching up or starting anew
On Friday 19th November, the planned activity couldn’t go ahead for the Halifax Art Society because of illness. However, our secretary was able to send out an email in time and members arrived with work they always meant to finish one day, or with new ideas in their mind.
Materials and magazines are always available and advice too, so we had a great session, as the photos show.
