In to focus

Last Friday the Halifax Art Society’s session was led by Lynne Hickin focusing on the drawing of the eye. Lynne talked us through the various stages and components that make up our eyes and helped us to see the subject a little clearer! There was also plenty of  opportunity to paint and draw with our favoured paint medium.

On the 29th November there will be a working session inspired by Grimshaw.

Experimental Landscape

Last Friday nearly forty members of the Halifax Art Society and guests turned up for the workshop  ‘Experimental Landscape’ with Phillipa Ashworth.

She came for the first time and taught us a different approach using just two water colours, but all sorts of material from bubble wrap and combs to feathers, cardboard, brushes and credit cards to great effect.

On the 8th November there will be a ‘Still Life Workshop Shells’ in any medium.

Beneath the decay

The Halifax Art Society came together last Friday to watch Jane Austin, an artist loved by many. She had brought one of her photos taken in Venice at high tide showing beauty where other people just see decay.

Jane came prepared with a fairly detailed pencil drawing of an old building’s doorway and gave lots of hints, tints and advice. When the first layers of paint were dry we looked in amazement how Jane lifted out lines and small areas with a fine wet brush to create another one of her stunning paintings in watercolour.

On the 8th November there will be a ‘Still Life Workshop’ at our usual venue in Skircoat Green, Halifax.
