The One Show

Lynne Hickin’s illustrations will be featured on The One Show, with broadcast scheduled for Tuesday 1st March 2022 although it may be overtaken by larger news stories and postponed. UPDATE – Postponed to Friday 11th March.

The human interest story concentrates on Brian Abram’s accident and the woman who saved his life, but he will talk about his books and some of Lynne’s illustrations will appear on screen.

It is hoped the show will stimulate sales of the books about ‘Grandad Wheels’ and take the money raised for charity over £30,000 – it’s currently standing at £29,000!

Abstract landscape

On Friday 11th February, our secretary Janet Gladhill guided us through a very interesting morning. She provided paintings in a variety of mediums for us to choose from, along with books on the subject to help with different mixed media ideas. Janet brought along some mark-making tools for us to try out: oil pastels, store cards, water spray bottles, cling film, bubble wrap, twigs, ink and pens, just to name a few. Once again all members enjoyed the morning.

Drawing with dust

On Friday 4th February, members of the Halifax Art Society were guided by artist Carol Pope to create a painting of a landscape or a portrait with graphite dust. We were stunned how a piece of kneadable putty could be used for slightly erasing but not fully erasing the paper we had covered with graphite dust. Also known as putty rubber it resembles putty or gum. The eraser absorbs graphite and charcoal particles.
