24th May 2024 – Following on from Dominic Vince’s illustrated talk on the life and work of Nicolas De Stael, members were inspired to try abstract ideas with many using a palette knife rather than brushes.

17th May 2024 – Anne gave a very interesting description and demonstration of Chinese brushstroke techniques, outlining the correct materials to use and where to buy them. Anne showed many examples of her work and the book she has published. We first practised painting bamboo shoots using simple, continuous brush stokes – however we soon realised that this is a specialised artform requiring a lot of skill and practice. We all had a very enjoyable morning and look forward to Anne coming back.

10th May 2024 – We held our AGM which was followed by a ‘show and tell’ of amazing work from members during the past year.

3rd May 2024 – Dominic Vince, an artist and tutor in Hebden Bridge, gave an excellent talk on the life and work of Nicolas De Stael and his sad ending. He gave insight into the different phases of his career and the techniques used by De Stael in creating his amazing work.
