Roller painting workshop
Last Friday morning’s workshop was great fun for members of the Halifax Art Society. Led by Matthew Evans, we used rollers and sponges to add acrylic paint to lining paper. The results were very impressive! (We have more pictures on our Facebook page).
We can recommend Matthew as a tutor, who is featured in the Leisure Painter magazine.

Overgate Hospice calendar
Last Friday morning at All Saints Parish Hall we were trying out painting trees in oils when we had a visitor from Overgate Hospice.
Ellena, one of the fundraising team, thanked members for their wonderful artwork that features in this year’s calendar. She brought a huge ‘cheque’ with her showing how much money has been raised to date from the sales. Halifax Art Society has been asked to provide the artwork for the calendar of 2020 and it is a privilege to help the Hospice in this way.

Trees in Oils
On Friday 25 January, the Halifax Art Society enjoyed David Starley’s demonstration of ‘Trees in Oils’. For many it was the first experience with this medium.
It was fascinating to watch David starting with a blank canvas and with one of his own photographs of a wood as inspiration. We learned how to give it the first grounding and to work with different forms and sizes of painting knives. As David stressed, it’s difficult to complete an oil painting in two hours, but we all thought he did a pretty good job.
On the 8th February Matthew Evans will lead a workshop on ‘Roller Painting’ and we were asked to bring an apron. So another new experience is waiting.
Painting our own winter scenes
Following the earlier demonstration by Paul Talbot-Greaves ‘Winter scene in Watercolour’, the Halifax Art Society met in the morning of Friday, 18th January at All Saints Parish Hall on Godfrey Road in Skircoat Green to paint their own winter scenes. The pictures were many and varied, and everyone had a very enjoyable time.
