Garden Month – Godfrey Road Allotment

11th August 2023 – Thank you to Ilona for arranging this day for members to visit Godfrey Road Allotments to do some sketching. Many photos were taken and members had the opportunity to sketch and paint outdoors. Back at the Hall, members had the choice of drawing and painting an assortment of fruit, flowers and vegetables.

Garden Month – All Saints Church

4th August 2023 – A visit was organised to sketch at the All Saints churchyard and garden. The weather was rather wet and drizzly, not ideal for outdoor painting. A few of us ventured out to the church to look at the gardens and cemetery, which was extremely interesting. Those who were at the Hall were busy painting flowers or working on previous subjects.

Stephen Coates – demonstration of line and wash

28th July 2023 – Stephen first invited members to draw along with him as he demonstrated how he quickly draws figures, creates perspective, where a vanishing point actually is! and the difference between shadows and reflections. Stephen then completed sketching a Mediterranean street scene using ink and wash. We all learnt something from a very enjoyable demonstration. Stephen kindly donated his finished artwork.

Acrylic Landscape demonstration

On 17th February we had a demonstration by our society president Paul Talbot-Greaves.

Paul created two different landscapes, one on canvas board and one on acrylic paper. It was interesting to learn about the differences in the techniques he applied to each painting, the affect of using matt medium with acrylic paint, working dark to light, using a test strip to match a colour before applying and much more.

Paul also brought in some of his artwork which was inspiring to see. We are all looking forward to applying what we have learned at next weeks meeting.
