Last Friday at 10:30 the Halifax Art Society met once again at ‘All Saints Parish Hall’ in Godfrey Road, Skircoat Green to watch a fascinating demonstration. This time Bruce Mulcahy developed a landscape with gouache. He gave many useful hints and tips that we are keen to practise next week ourselves. As he used our microphone and other equipment everybody could follow easily.

Suffragette
Last Friday the turn-out of members was very good, as everyone wanted to draw or paint our model Julie, who was dressed as a Suffragette. She was an excellent model, sitting amazingly still.
We met as usual at All Saints Parish Hall, Godfrey Road.
On the 5th October Dr. Tom Ratcliffe will give an illustrated talk ‘Artists at War’. Our ‘Inspiration’ Exhibition is still on at Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre with more than 50 art works to see and to buy. Open every day 10-5 until the end of September.
Come a little closer…
The Halifax Art Society met again at All Saints Parish Hall, Skircoat Green for Janet’s workshop last Friday entitled ‘Come a Little Closer’. She demonstrated how to develop abstract paintings from photographic close-ups.
Our ‘Inspiration’ exhibition is now on at Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre with more than 50 art works to see. Open every day 10-5pm until the 31st September.

Botanical interests
Last Friday’s planned workshop didn’t take place, as Mark Burgum unfortunately had to cancel. HAS member Lynne Hickin ran a workshop in his place, also on the subject of ‘Trees’. It is great to have highly gifted members who can stand in!
Some members also attended a botanical workshop at Lynne and Philip’s home and garden on Saturday. The weather stayed fine, if a little breezy, so some decided to work in the garden while others enjoyed being in the conservatory. Some worked in watercolour, while others used pencil or charcoal.

Feeling inspired
Halifax Art Society members are often inspired by the artists who visit to demonstrate their skills and after a visit by pastel artist Sue Smith, Lynne Hickin was inspired to use her pastels.

You may recognise the subject as’ Another Place’ by Anthony Gormley at Crosby Beach which we visited in September 2016.
“INSPIRATION is the title of our next exhibition at the Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre. and runs from 1st – 30th September. The centre is open daily 10:00-17:00.
