We spent workshop sessions at the start of November creating Christmas cards and bookmarks. Some members made Christmas cards for fund raising at the McMillan Unit, others concentrated on cards to give to friends. What could be nicer than a beautiful bespoke card made especially for the recipient?

Reflections workshop
The Halifax Art Society group enjoyed practising ‘Painting reflections in water’ . One member brought a mirror along, placed objects on it and that gave again different aspects of the topic.
Reflections in watercolour
Our demonstrator on the 13th October was Stephen Coates and his chosen subject was ‘Reflections in Watercolour’. What started with a fascinating lesson in physics soon developed into a demonstration of reflections in different kind of water. After our tea break he painted a tranquil scene of mountains and a lake using only four colours.

On the 10th November Lynne Hickin will give an illustrated talk on ‘Alice through the Illustrators’.
Marbling workshop
The Friday 6th October morning meeting of the Halifax Art Society was well attended. Two of our members, Lynda Thomas and Philip Hickin, ran a workshop on ‘Marbling’. It was a technique that was new to most of us. Nevertheless, under Lynda’s and Philip’s skillful tuition, we were able to produce many beautiful patterns. We are all grateful to members who give up their time to make the society successful. We continue to attract new members and more are welcome.
The next public meeting will be on the 10th November with the illustrated talk by Lynne Hickin ‘Alice through the Illustrators’.
Painting with Acrylics
The meeting of the Halifax Art Society on the 27th September went agreeably well. Our secretary Janet stood in for William Gall, who was booked to give a demonstration, but had to cancel. Janet gave us a short talk on painting with acrylics, and then invited us to use some of the unusual materials she had brought with her. We are lucky to have talented members who will step in and help the others who are not so gifted.
On Saturday Lynne and Philip Hickin, once again, opened up their home to the members and gave us an illustrated talk on the painting of miniatures. This was much enjoyed by the members and we all felt indebted to them both.
