David GLOVER – Illustrated talk of Forgotten Women of the 20th Century

20th March 2026 – We welcomed local historian, David, who gave a talk that included the early lady members of the Halifax Art Society. As we know, all founder members were men, but this changed with the arrival of American artist Elizabeth Campbell Fisher-Clay. She was the first female member of HAS and was the wife of Halifax Councillor and Alderman Howard Clay. Her daughter Monica Clay was also a member of HAS.

Dominic VINCE – Lecture on the art and life of Richard Diebenkorn

27th February 2026 – A wonderful talk about the life and art of American artist Richard Diebenkorn. He was a renowned for bridging Abstract Impressionism, the Bay Area Figurative Movement and his own, distinct, lyrical Ocean Park series. He used light, geometrical shapes and structure to create, what he described as, ‘tension beneath calm’.

Complete Playhouse Artwork or Free Choice

20th February 2026 – Members were busy either completing their Playhouse work or having free choice on subject and medium. Our next changeover at the Playhouse will include framed work inspired by the programme covers loaned to us.
