Jenny Dennison White – Hand Made Paper

3rd October 2025 – Members learnt how to make handmade paper, well demonstrated by Jenny. As paper making isn’t something we could all practice on Fridays, and can be messy, Jenny will run small workshops from her studio. Jenny brought in lots of samples and ideas to share and plenty of her own artwork to show and sell. This paper is not suitable for watercolour but ideal for acrylics, pastels and pencils.

Julia OGDEN – Rainbow Portraits in Acrylics

5th September 2025 – We welcomed Julia again who presented a very interesting workshop painting a portrait using very unexpected colours as a base. Julia gave a short demonstration for each layer of colour which members then practiced on their own portrait painting. The results were amazing. Members can spend next week to finish their paintings.

Simon MANFIELD – A portrait of Provident, Brixham Trawler

11th June 2025 – Simon made a welcome return. This time he gave an interesting talk about his commission to paint the Provident, the wonderful time he spent sailing around on the trawler, the complexities of painting accurate details of a boat that would stand up to the scrutiny of sailors and how the sketches he drew resulted in him doing 2 paintings. Members spent the rest of the morning sketching a boat themed artwork either using one of Simon’s sketches of the Provident or a picture they brought in.
