Last Friday Ilona had invited our HAS group into the nearby allotment to do painting or drawing of the plentiful flowers or fruits. Some of us stayed in, as Janet and Carol had brought in vegetables, fruit and flowers too, for those of us who preferred to stay inside.
Our member Carol Pope had organised a very different memorable Friday morning. She had asked us to bring one of our favourite finished water colour paintings. Then one by one we explained our thoughts and circumstances leading up to creating just that piece of work. Some people brought in a famous picture.
After the coffee break we then started painting a new water colour.
Our member Philip Hickin had organised a follow-up session to the talk last week about Tiffany windows. He had provided books, photos and many copies of Tiffany windows in black and white for members to colour in according to their choice. In addition there were bookmarks where we could slide in finished small pictures. We were soon so absorbed in our work that you could have heard a pin drop.
Last week the HAS enjoyed an illustrated talk on Tiffany by Douglas Jackson. However, though Tiffany’s famous lamps and table decorations were mentioned, the emphasis was on stained glass windows by Tiffany which was new for most members.
Douglas showed on screen many stunning examples. They featured three-dimensional-looking figures and objects, many of them placed in landscapes that seem to recede in space. He gave St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Troy, New York, USA as one example of where you can admire amazing Tiffany windows.
