Demonstration by Phil Biggs

It was a pleasure last Friday morning to welcome artist Phil Biggs to the Halifax Art Society in the All Saints Parish Hall at Skircoat Green. Phil had travelled all the way from Lincolnshire to demonstrate his watercolour technique.

It was mesmerizing to watch how easy it seemed to be for him to create even fog rising in the hills. When Phil added shadows and a dab of darker colour in the foreground we were surprised how it gave distance to the houses in the background.

Wildlife in pastels

Last Friday more than 30 members and visitors of the Halifax Art Society enjoyed an outstanding demonstration by Catherine Inglis on the subject of ‘Animals in soft pastel’.

Catherine had obtained a detailed photo of a bird of prey and worked on sandpaper. She put dark colours in first, pushed the pastels of the background in with her hand and rested the little finger on the paper when drawing details to steady her hand. Catherine constantly explained each step of her work and an unbelievable image emerged in front of the amazed audience.
