Last week most members had completed their mobile, so today members decided to complete unfinished artwork for the Halifax Heritage Bus or Calderdale Industrial Museum exhibition.

Last week most members had completed their mobile, so today members decided to complete unfinished artwork for the Halifax Heritage Bus or Calderdale Industrial Museum exhibition.

Our guest speaker Victor Buckley described his role of Art & Wellbeing volunteer at Springhill Hospice in Rochdale. He talked about his love of sculpture and brought in examples of his work. Victor provided all the material we needed to make a mobile and suggested we look at Alexander Calder’s mobile artwork. Members went about creating their own mobile, which was a bit fiddly but great fun.
Following on from Anthony Barrow’s demonstration the previous week, members had a go at creating portraits using Anthony’s technique of applying charcoal and acrylic onto gesso. Here are some photos of the artworks.
Anthony Barrow gave an excellent demonstration on the 30th June, which was informative, inspiring and entertaining. He showed us his very effective technique of using charcoal and acrylic glazes with an eraser/damp cloth to create his extraordinary artwork. He brought in lots of his completed works which were impressive. We will have go at trying out this technique next week.
You can see more of Anthony’s work here: https://anthonybarrow.co.uk/
Did you know that 21st June is World Giraffe Day? It celebrates the tallest animal on the longest day (or night) of the year!
Janet organised this session for members to paint these wonderful animals whose numbers are decreasing. We had lots of photographs and ideas to help with the artwork.
