Garden Month – All Saints Church

4th August 2023 – A visit was organised to sketch at the All Saints churchyard and garden. The weather was rather wet and drizzly, not ideal for outdoor painting. A few of us ventured out to the church to look at the gardens and cemetery, which was extremely interesting. Those who were at the Hall were busy painting flowers or working on previous subjects.

Stephen Coates – demonstration of line and wash

28th July 2023 – Stephen first invited members to draw along with him as he demonstrated how he quickly draws figures, creates perspective, where a vanishing point actually is! and the difference between shadows and reflections. Stephen then completed sketching a Mediterranean street scene using ink and wash. We all learnt something from a very enjoyable demonstration. Stephen kindly donated his finished artwork.

Speedy portraits

On 31st March, Lynda led a workshop on fast portaits. It involved sketching portraits of each other, using only fine-line pens, each one being done in less than 20 minutes. Pens and paper were provided. At the end of the morning a ‘Rogues Gallery’ was set up. This was a challenging but really fun day, with members producing some lovely work.
