Outdoor Drawing

On the 14th October we were invited to an Outdoor Drawing workshop at Dean Clough with Jake Attree at his studio.  He talked through some of his drawings done using only a biro – they were very striking.

After Jake gave a short demonstration of his technique, we found a spot either outside or indoors looking out of window and drew in biro what we could see. Everyone enjoyed this unique experience.

Some members stayed at the Hall and drew an industrial landscape from photographs provided.

Drawing with dust

On Friday 4th February, members of the Halifax Art Society were guided by artist Carol Pope to create a painting of a landscape or a portrait with graphite dust. We were stunned how a piece of kneadable putty could be used for slightly erasing but not fully erasing the paper we had covered with graphite dust. Also known as putty rubber it resembles putty or gum. The eraser absorbs graphite and charcoal particles.

An approach to drawing

Last Friday we had a demonstration of a different kind. Naseem Darbey came for the second time to convey her ‘Approach to Drawing’. We learned that you can even ‘draw’ with your sewing machine on soluble sort of paper. Or you can travel to the Netherlands to a certain Textile Museum to use their special sewing machine covering wire, thus creating unusual pieces of three dimensional art!

After the break Naseem showed us different ways of drawing in a hands-on workshop.

On the 31st January Lynda Thomas offers a workshop on ‘Aboriginal Dot Painting’.
